Mommy’s First Cowl

Posted on 03 February 2009

I wasn’t sure I’d like it, honestly.

Pattern: The Good Luck Cowl

Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug, Color 118

Time Elapsed: Under a week

Notes/Modifications: I knit this pattern exactly as written. It is my first cowl, and I was more than dubious about how useful it would be, but one hank of yarn isn’t really enough for a scarf and I knew I wanted this around my face.

The yarn was a gift from the lovely Marlena and I really couldn’t be happier with it. The color is gorgeous, it’s soft but not pilly, it’s springy as all hell.

The pattern was clear, easy, and fun to knit.

And as it turns out, a cowl is really quite a useful thing! At least if you live in Boston.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

I love that pattern! I live in NH and I know what you mean about keeping your neck warm – and your feet. If they’re warm, you’re just fine in this weather.

This last weekend I also knit my first cowl. It was a pattern I found at Zebra Knits, and I wanted to try my hand at some cable work. It was fun to knit and I am so happy with the results. The only problem is, I live in Sunny South Africa, and I don’t know if I am going to get much chance to use it. At least it is pretty to look at!!

Beautiful! And I’m so glad you found a use for that yarn besides socks! It would have been such a waste to have such a perfect-for-you color all the way on your feet. :)

  • Cat says:

Glad you’re still getting knitting time in, even with two little ones.

Nice to see you knitting something pretty for yourself. One for Jacob, one for me, one for Daniel, one for me…. That way everyone’s happy. :)

  • Heather says:

Oh my GAWD this is the coolest cowl I’ve seen in ages–and you are such a beauty. Seriously.

  • Brenda says:

Very pretty! And such an excellent color for you, Amy. I have not yet knit a cowl, but I need to. I have very short hair, and a lot of places are drafty–my neck gets so cold.
