Trials and Tribulations

Posted on 15 October 2007

Can I even express in words how FRUSTRATING it is that I’m writing this post over dial-up? I don’t think so. The DSL folks say that it might be another 3-4 business days before we get real network connectivity, here. No blog reading over morning coffee for me, and I’m totally going through withdrawal.

Sigh.

I don’t know what others do when stressed, but I seem to buy yarn. So, in lieu of another picture of an un-blocked Waterlily or a half-completed Tangled Yoke sleeve, here’s some luscious stash enhancement instead!

(The Plucky Knitter’s “Pumpkin Latte” sock yarn. YUM.)

(Long-overdue solid sock yarn purchase–I’m really way too finicky about variegated colors for my own good.)

Aren’t they gorgeous? Just the thing to make a girl feel better about not being able to properly blog-surf.

And, I also have Rhinebeck to console myself. I doubt I’ll be wearing Tangled Yoke, though–I vastly over-estimated the amount of knitting time I’d have during our move. I’m still only about halfway through the second sleeve, and then there’s the yoke and button band and ribbon finishing to consider. I’ll probably still be working on it there! I signed up to be a square in the blogger bingo, along with Marlena. I think it’ll be lots of fun, and for reference I’ll probably look something like this:

I have no idea what hand-knit I’ll be wearing, and my hair may be curlier. (Who has time to blow-dry when there’s YARN to be fondled?!) But I’m really looking forward to meeting some of you virtual folks in real life!

Well, I’m going through Amy withdrawal. ;) I miss having you on the mush. Although it was nice to get a fix in yesterday. Have a fantastic trip, and see you when you get back. I love the new yarn.

Ooooh, dialup is the worst. But that yarn is plenty consoling–orange! solids!–and Rhinebeck? That’s the best consolation prize of all.

  • Anna says:

Yay, you are back! I am sorry about the dialup. The yarn is absolutelly gorgeous though. And I hope we`ll get to see lots of pictures from Rhinebeck.

  • Lauren says:

Oooh, jewel tones. I cannot resist deep colors like those. They will make gorgeous socks.

Dial-up – you have my sympathies!

How I wish I was going to Rhinebeck this year. Well, there is always next, right?

    Have fun!

One thing that saved my sanity when I was on dialup was Google Reader (http://reader.google.com). It may be annoying to do at this point, given that you’re already on dialup, but go put the blogs you read in there (search for the names or put the URL of the feed in there). Then you can read using all your blog stuff through there, which greatly decreases the amount you need to download and makes it easier to download (since it’s pretty much all in one big chunk). If you see a cut-off blog entry, it’s probably because their blog feed only has the first N characters in it, so just use the arrow at the top of the post to open it up and read it on the blog.

Just a suggestion, but it helped me out. I actually still use it to read blogs, especially because I can mark entries and find em later and because I don’t end up checking all the blogs I read that haven’t updated that day.

You’re looking gorgeous! I’m not going to Rhinebeck, sadly. I love the sock yarn you bought, I’ve knitted with it and it’s very luxurious. The colors are beautiful. Now you can make some lace socks. :)

  • Adrienne says:

How BEAUTIFUL!!!!! And your yarn is gorgeous too!

I love that Pumkin Latte yarn–and I know what you mean about the hand-dyed yarn. It looks so great on the ball, but I often am disappointed with the striping and pooling.

I dropped the ball with the blogger bingo–I was away at Stitches East, and I didn’t discover it until today (too late to join). But I will look for you, so I can say “hi”–and so I can see your beautiful shawl first hand.

ugh, dial-up is such a bummer, but i guess it’s better than no internet!

i’m thinking about heading to rhinebeck on saturday. mapquest has just informed me that it’s only a little over 2 hours away from where i live in mass. i’ll look for you if i end up there!
